June 29, 2010

Alexandre Gertsman opened the doors of his SoHo art space, the Alexandre Gertsman Contemporary Art Gallery, and hosted a cocktail party with celebrity attorney, David Hryck. The fete honored the work of the Lifeline Humanitarian Organization. HRH Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia, the guest of honor, spoke passionately about the charity. Founded by his wife HRH Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia in 1993, Lifeline brings medical equipment and aid to Serbia’s most needy citizens through a number of initiatives.

The Russian art was a magical backdrop for Lifeline supporters and art lovers alike to mix, mingle and meet the prince. The exhibition NEW VISIONS features works by 15 foremost Russian-born artists of their generation, including Ivan Chuikov, Semyon Faibisovich, Rimma and Valery Gerlovin, Komar & Melamid, Natalya Nesterova, and Boris Orlov. Their works can be found in the collections of such museums as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Guggenheim Museum, MOMA, The Hirshhorn Museum, Tate Gallery of Art, Center Pompidou, Canadian National Gallery, Australian National Gallery, The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. Their works have been sold by major auction houses, including Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Phillips de Pury, and Bonham’s.
