The Ministry of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, the National Tretyakov Gallery, “IntArt” Foundation, and the Moscow Museum “Arbat Prestige” invite you to an exhibition of works by Natalya Nesterova “Remembrance” (1970 –2004). The exhibition will take place from January 19th to February 20th, 2005.
This unprecedented exhibition of Natalya Nesterova’s paintings in the Tretyakov Gallery, consisting of more than 50 canvases, is not retrospective in the full meaning of the word. The heart of the exhibit are Nesterova’s works of the last few years, which belong to the “IntArt” Foundation (The International Art Foundation of Former Soviet States, Inc) (based in the US and headed by Alexander Gertsman). These works were until now unfamiliar to the Russian public. Additionally, about fifteen presented paintings come from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, completed mid-70s to late-80s, and more than ten canvases came from the collection of Museum “Prestige”, executed in the time period of the mid 70s to present.
Natalya Nesterova was born in Moscow in 1944 into a family of architects and from 1962 to 1968 she went on to study at the Surikov Moscow Art Institute in the studio of D.D. Zhilinsky. Since 1991, she has been teaching painting at the Russian Academy of Arts. Natalya Nesterova is one of the most well-known and appreciated Russian artists of the 70s. Nesterova, who has primarily worked in the US since 1988, has had exhibitions in Russia and abroad, her works are part of some of the largest art collections in the world, such as the Guggenheim in New York, Ludwig Museum in Cologne, museums in Montreal and Peking, as well as many others.
